Trump's Engagement Ring for Marla Maples Up for Auction

The engagement ring of Donald Trumps ex-wife Marla Maples was on the market again at New Yorks Lotte Palace on Wednesday, June 29th. The 7.45-carat emerald-cut diamond ring was auctioned off by estate jewelry auctioneer Joseph DuMouchelle for a private client.

The engagement ring represents a part of Maples life, and perhaps happier times between the couple. Despite blissfully tying the knot after a highly publicized relationship in 1993, Maples finalized divorce proceedings with the businessman and current president-elect, Donald Trump, in 1999 after a short-lived marriage of 6 years. The couple has only one daughter, Tiffany Trump, as a result of their union.

Previously sold by Maples to a collector in 1999 for $110,000 following the finalization of her divorce in the same year, the Harry Winston engagement ring had an estimate of $300,000 to $350,000 and reportedly fetched an expected price at the DuMouchelle auction.

DuMouchelle reportedly said prior to the sale that the estimate was based on the diamond rings intrinsic value, and that the celebrity significance did not enter into the price. The 7.45-carat center diamond has a rectangular, steep cut mounted in platinum, with sides that are channel set with 16 graduated, straight baguette cut diamonds.

Tom Burstein, international director at Christie's, echoed the sentiment that the increased estimate potentially stemmed from changes in the diamond market. "If we look at the diamond itself, the increased estimate is based on the increase in the diamond market from that period," he said.

The exquisite cut on diamond rings has been known to make them highly sought-after, often the choice pick of those wishing to adorn their betrothed with the finest gemstones. Fonder Diamonds offer such engagement rings, beset with diamonds in a range of classic, timeless styles.
